Description
DeVilbiss Advance HD Pressure Feed Conventional Spray Gun Kit (ADV-P497-14)
The DeVilbiss Advance HD Pressure Feed Conventional Spray Gun Kit (ADV-P497-14) is a mid-sized industrial spray gun configured for pressure-feed operation with conventional atomization and high-capacity air delivery. This kit includes the Advance HD pressure-feed gun body with the No. 497 Conventional air cap and a 1.4mm stainless steel fluid tip and needle. Gun only — no cup included. The 497 Conventional cap's powerful atomization paired with the controlled 1.4mm nozzle produces an exceptionally fine, smooth finish — making this configuration ideal for topcoat and finish applications where surface quality is the top priority.
What's in the Kit
The ADV-P497-14 ships with the Advance HD pressure-feed gun body, No. 497 Conventional air cap, and 1.4mm stainless steel fluid tip and needle. The pressure-feed configuration connects to external fluid supply systems including pressure tanks, remote cups, and recirculating lines. The gun features a 1/4" universal thread air inlet and a 3/8" universal thread fluid inlet (both accept BSP and NPS connectors). Optional accessories include the stainless steel fluid filter kit (VSA-512) and tungsten carbide or hardened tips and needles for abrasive materials. Hardened and tungsten carbide options are available in the 1.4mm size.
No. 497 Conventional Air Cap Performance
The No. 497 Conventional air cap operates at a recommended inlet pressure of 50 psi (3.5 bar) with an air consumption of 18.0 scfm (510 L/min) and produces a typical fan pattern of approximately 380mm (15.0"). The 497 is the highest-capacity conventional cap in the Advance HD range — it delivers the most air volume and widest conventional fan pattern for maximum atomization quality and fast production coverage. Paired with the 1.4mm fluid tip, the high air-to-fluid ratio produces exceptionally fine material break-up and thin, smooth film builds across the 497's wide fan. This configuration excels on finish topcoats, light enamels, clearcoats, sealers, and medium-viscosity coatings where a class-A surface finish is the goal. The 497's high air volume ensures thorough atomization even on materials that resist break-up at lower pressures.
Why Conventional Atomization
Conventional spray guns operate at higher air pressures than HVLP or Trans-Tech compliant guns, producing the finest atomization and smoothest finish quality available. Where regulatory compliance permits, conventional atomization delivers the highest finish quality and fastest application rates in industrial spray finishing. The 497's 18.0 scfm air consumption reflects its position as the top-performing conventional cap — the additional air volume translates directly to superior atomization and finish quality.
Why Pressure Feed
Pressure-feed spray guns deliver material from an external pressurized source rather than a gravity or suction cup. This eliminates the weight of a cup on the gun body, reducing operator fatigue on long spray sessions. More importantly, pressure feed enables continuous material supply without stopping to refill — a critical advantage in high-volume production, large-panel work, and applications where consistent fluid delivery is needed regardless of gun angle or orientation. The Advance HD pressure-feed body maintains the same high-capacity air passages and balanced air valve as the gravity and suction versions for identical atomization quality.
Built for High-Demand Industrial Finishing
The Advance HD achieves superior atomization through high-capacity air passages and a separate balanced air valve that provides unrestricted airflow through the gun body. The heavily anodized aluminum alloy construction is built for durability in demanding production environments. Stainless steel fluid tips, needles, and passageways come standard for compatibility with both solvent-based and waterborne materials. The gun is CE marked and fully ATEX approved for use in hazardous atmospheres.
Ergonomic Design for Reduced Operator Fatigue
The Advance HD features a contoured handle design that greatly reduces RSI and operator fatigue during extended spray sessions. Increased finger space, lighter trigger pull tension, reduced trigger travel, and a self-adjusting PTFE needle packing assembly all contribute to a gun that is comfortable to use shift after shift. The built-in air inlet adjuster "cheater" valve provides at-the-gun pressure control for quick adjustments without leaving the spray area.
