What is the difference between HVLP and High Efficiency air caps?

The HV30 is a true HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) air cap that operates at lower inlet pressures (14–25 PSI) but consumes more air (15.5 SCFM). The TE-series High Efficiency air caps operate at slightly higher pressures but use less compressed air while still meeting transfer efficiency requirements. High Efficiency caps are ideal for shops with limited compressor capacity.

Which kit should I choose for waterborne basecoats?

For waterborne basecoats, the High Efficiency kits with TE10 or TE20 air caps (905043, 905044) are the most popular choice. The TE20 runs at the lowest inlet pressure of the HE caps (16–26 PSI) and produces excellent metallic laydown. For shops that also spray solventborne clearcoats, the combo kit 905045 (TE25 + HV30) gives you both technologies in one package.

What nozzle size should I use?

For basecoats, 1.2mm or 1.3mm nozzles are standard. For clearcoats and heavier-bodied materials, step up to 1.3mm or 1.4mm. The 1.5mm nozzle is typically reserved for high-build primers or very viscous materials. All PROLite gravity kits include multiple nozzle sizes so you can dial in based on your specific material.
