The DeVilbiss DV1 Basecoat Kit 704528 is the dedicated waterborne configuration of the DV1 Basecoat platform. Built around the DV1-1+A HVLP specialty air cap, this kit is purpose-built for shops that run exclusively waterborne basecoat systems and want a gun optimized for that application from the factory. The kit includes a single 1.4mm fluid tip, the Digital DGI PRO Air Gauge, and DPC Adapter.

The DV1-1+A HVLP air cap is a specialty waterborne cap engineered for the specific atomization characteristics of water-based basecoat systems — delivering the same DV1 hallmarks of reduced mottling, balanced spray pattern, and stabilized air distribution that the platform is known for, tuned for the flow behavior of waterborne materials. At 11.1 SCFM @ 22 PSI digital with a 12.2” pattern, it operates at a slightly higher air volume than the B+ cap for optimal waterborne atomization.

The DV1-1+A is a specialty cap engineered specifically for waterborne basecoat systems, tuned for the surface tension and flow behavior of water-based materials. The DV1-B+ HVLP Plus cap in Kit 704504 handles both solvent and waterborne. If your shop runs both systems, Kit 704504 is more flexible. Can I use different tip sizes with the DV1-1+A air cap?

Yes — all DV1-B fluid tips from 0.9mm (704409) through 1.5mm (704415) are compatible with the DV1-1+A cap. The 1.4mm is included in this kit. Additional sizes are available separately. All tips use the shared DV1-300 Needle (704416). Please check product pages for current stock status.

Why does waterborne need more SCFM than solvent?

Waterborne materials have higher surface tension than solvent-based coatings, requiring slightly more air energy to break the fluid apart into fine droplets at equivalent pressure. The DV1-1+A cap in this kit draws 11.1 SCFM vs 10.5 SCFM for the B+ cap — tuned to provide the atomization quality waterborne materials need for consistent coverage and color match.

Are the service kits the same as for Kit 704504?
