PEM-X1 vs. PEM-C4

The PEM-X1 is not just a replacement — it’s a significant upgrade over the C4 in ergonomics, weight, control, and nozzle versatility.

Lighter & More Ergonomic

The PEM-X1 weighs just 490g vs the C4’s ~500g, with a completely redesigned ergonomic grip and balance point. Extended spraying sessions are noticeably less fatiguing.

On-Gun Controls

The PEM-X1 has on-gun buttons for powder quantity adjustment and a double-click trigger function to instantly switch to a special recipe mid-job — features the C4 didn’t have.

Integrated Cascade Cooling

The PEM-X1 adds air-flushed cascade cooling for extended service life under sustained use. The C4 cascade had no dedicated cooling path.

Replaceable Protective Wedge

The X1 has a replaceable electrode protective wedge that shields the electrode from accidental impacts — extending electrode life and reducing maintenance cost.

Unified X1 Ecosystem

X1 nozzles are shared across manual (PEM-X1), automatic (PEA-X1), and robot (PER-X1) guns. One accessory inventory replaces the C4’s gun-specific parts.

Sprint 2 System Ready

The PEM-X1 is the gun in Wagner’s current Sprint 2 manual systems — including box feed, hopper feed, and cup gun case set configurations. Full system upgrade path available.

Important Note on Nozzle Compatibility

C4 Nozzles Are Not Compatible with X1

The PEM-X1 uses the new X1 nozzle ecosystem that is not backward-compatible with PEM-C4 FlexNozzles, electrode holders, or CoronaStar sets. When upgrading from C4 to X1, new nozzles and electrode holders are required. The upside: X1 nozzles are shared across the PEM-X1 manual, PEA-X1 automatic, and PER-X1 robot guns — consolidating your accessory inventory into one unified system.

Is the PEM-C4 discontinued?

Yes. Wagner has discontinued the entire PEM-C4 HiCoat family — including the C4, C4 R, C4 FM, and CG4 variants — and replaced it with the PEM-X1 manual gun.

Which PEM-X1 replaces my C4 variant?

PEM-C4 and C4 FM → PEM-X1 Wide Spray (2322587). PEM-C4 R → PEM-X1 Round Spray (2335844). PEM-CG4 → PEM-X1 CG (2322588).

Are C4 spare parts still available?

CET stocks remaining PEM-C4, C4 FM, and C4R spare parts while supplies last. As a discontinued product, availability will decline. Upgrading to PEM-X1 ensures long-term parts support through the actively produced X1 ecosystem.

Can I use my C4 nozzles on the X1?

No. The X1 nozzle system is not backward-compatible with C4 FlexNozzles or electrode holders. New X1 components are required when upgrading. The benefit: X1 nozzles work across PEM-X1, PEA-X1, and PER-X1 — one inventory for all three gun families.

Will my old controller work with the X1?

The EPG Sprint, EPG BRAVO, and EPG PRIMA controllers that worked with the C4 are not compatible with the PEM-X1. The X1 requires a WACON Sprint 2 X, Sprint 2 XE, or EPG Sprint X controller. The Sprint 2 systems include both gun and controller.
